Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then
|
Activity DescriptionTo begin this lesson I read the "Febold Febolson" oral language cards to the class. After reading the cards all of the students went back to their seats to work on a summary of the cards. Margarita and I went to the back of the room and began with a graphic organizer. In this organizer there was five different parts: Somebody, Wanted, But, So, and Then. In the somebody section she was to name the main character. The wanted section was for the goal of the character. But, was for the problem that he faced while trying to reach his goal. So was intended for the solution. Last was Then and that was for how the story ended. After Margarita and I worked on the graphic organizer we wrote the summary in a paragraph form.

ReflectionHaving the graphic organizer made it much easier for her to write the story in her own words. Although she needs to work on her paragraph placement she was able to implement all of the main points into her paragraph. I think that this lesson was an overall success. After the organizer was complete she for the most part didn't need my help, she was able to write everything herself. I believe that in the future this graphic organizer will help Margarita as she will know that when she is writing her final paragraph that she has hit all of the necessary elements that need to be hit. Also, in the long run she was able to finish in able the same time as all of the other students even though they didn't use an organizer. While writing she didn't have to stop and think about what she wanted to write next, so she was able to produce the paragraph in the same time.
