Margarita is a second grade student at Spring Creek Elementary School. She is a retained student who was held back in kindergarten. At home she doesn't have a lot of help from her parents due to the lack of English that her parents know. Both her parents never attended high school and they still speak Spanish at home. Margarita has two sisters who also attend Spring Creek, one in first grade and one in pre-k. The sister in first grade helps Margarita at home especially when she is reading. She also has a younger brother who is 2. Margarita’s favorite subjects in school are computers, reading, and math. She also mentioned that she enjoys reading to her dad at home. When it comes to her favorite special at school, she enjoys going to P.E.
Outside of school Margarita enjoys going to her cousins’ house to play. She also mentioned that her family enjoys going to Wal-Mart on the weekend. When she grows up Margarita said that she wants to be a cook, even though she doesn't get to cook with mom at home often, but she gets to help with cleaning and that’s something that she enjoys, because she is helping her mom out.
Margarita seems to really get along with all of the other students in the classroom. You often see her get a little frustrated that she doesn't know the answer when being called on, but she never gives up! Over time I have also noticed that she is very shy when she is put on the spot, whether it be when she is called on or even when she is working one on one with someone and the other students aren't. Margarita is making great gains in all of the subjects in school and she is really working hard doing so. You can see that she never gives up and really wants this for herself.
