Sentence Correction
|
Activity DescriptionIn this lesson Margarita was working on sentence correction. Each morning for morning work Margarita would correct two sentences. Instead of her correcting them in her head and trying to write each sentence right away I had her underline the part that she thought was wrong and then I would check to make sure she had that correct before she could move on. After she had them all underlined correctly she would then write the sentence correctly. I would then check it and star by the ones that were correct and then we would talk about which ones needed to be worked on again.

ReflectionMargarita did really well with finding the part and underlining which was incorrect. The only time that she really struggled was when it came to names that she didn't know so she automatically thought that it was the part that was wrong. Where Margarita did struggle was with rewriting the sentences. The majority of the time when we were talking about it after her attempt and I would say the sentence that she wrote, she would realize what was wrong. I believe a lot of times ELL students need to hear things before they see that it is wrong, which was the case for her.
